A shiatsu treatment consists of pressure applied to areas all over the body with fingers, thumbs, elbows and knees, along with gentle, guided stretches. The amount of pressure can be deep and vigorous or subtle and sensitive, depending on the condition. It is performed through loose, comfortable clothing and no oils are used.
As a form of therapeutic massage, shiatsu can ease symptoms of pain, reduce stress and improve digestion. I have had success treating physical and emotional disruptions like headaches, muscular soreness, stiffness, fatigue, complaints related to pregnancy and jaw pain.
